As is true of many California cities, Los Altos began life as a result of a Land Grant deed from the Spanish court.
In the late 1800s, the widow of the inventor of the Winchester rifle, Sarah Winchester, owned 100 acres of land that later became the official site for the town of Los Altos. Most people know of Sarah Winchester from the famous Winchester House, but it is her sale of land to the Peninsula Interurban Railway in 1906 that was important for the establishment of Los Altos.
With its mild climate and an established railroad, businesses and families starting arriving to the area. The citizens of Los Altos voted to incorporate in 1952, and are now part of the greater Silicon Valley. Renowned worldwide for the latest in high-tech innovations and companies, Los Altos continues to be known for the quality of their restaurants and unique shops.
They are also renowned for the latest in medical and dental procedures, and it is not uncommon for visitors from other countries to schedule dental implants in the area. After all, they can stay in unique hotels, eat at great restaurants, and shop for quality goods all at the same time.
